Programme March – December 2010

Wednesday 17th March
Walls Lookout track and Rigby Hill picnic ground. Meet at 8.30am at Mt Victoria railway station for car pool or 9.00am at Pieces Pass – Walls Lookout car park if coming up Bell's Line of Road. Reasonable walking tracks, some steps. Toilets available.

Wednesday 31st March
Botanical Walk: Minnehaha Falls. Meet at 9.00am at the carpark, end of Minnehaha Road, North Katoomba. No toilets.

Sunday 4th April
Hargraves Lookout and Megalong Valley. Meet 9.30am at Blackheath railway station (Station Street carpark on west side of line).

Wednesday 21st April – note two walks
Agnes Banks Nature Reserve. Early Bird Walk. Meet 6.30am at locked gate Rickards Road, Agnes Banks (103 D8). Flat walk on sandy fire roads. No toilets.
Castlereagh Nature Reserve. Meet 8.30am The Northern Road, Berkshire Park, near locked gate. This is opposite the wreckers (124 K-L9). Easy walk on flat fire roads. No toilets.

Sunday 2nd May
Campfire Creek, Glenbrook. Meet 9.30am at the National Park entrance gate at Glenbrook.

Saturday 8th May – Quarterly Meeting & AGM
1.30pm at Maria Kinder Hall, 14 Somerville Street (off Wentworth Street), Wentworth Falls (walk down the path to the building on the right). It would be appreciated if those attending could bring their own cup and a small plate of food to share.
Guest speaker: bird artist Fiona Lumsden

Wednesday 19th May
Kings Tableland. Meet 8.30am end of Chester Road, Wentworth Falls (31 L4). A 2.5km round walk. Some up and down (50 metre ascent/descent), some steps, mix of fireroads and walking tracks, some sections with loose stones. Flowering banksias and honeyeaters. No toilets.

Sunday 6th June
Great River Walk, Penrith. Meet 9.30am at Weir Reserve (just past the rowing club), Penrith.

Wednesday 16th June
Yarramundi Reserve. Meet 9.00am at Yarramundi Reserve southern carpark closest to Yarramundi Bridge, Springwood Road, Yarramundi (83 H-J12). If coming from the mountains it's the carpark on your right. Good flat walking tracks. No toilets.

Wednesday 30th June
Botanical Walk: Dark's Common, Glenbrook. Meet at Lapstone Tennis courts at 9.00am.

Sunday 4th July
Darwin's Walk, Wentworth Falls. Meet 9.30am in Wilson Park at the top of Falls Road, Wentworth Falls.

Wednesday 21st July – note afternoon walk
Euroka and River Track. Meet 2.00pm at the entrance to National Park, Bruce Road, Glenbrook (47 L5). Escape the cold morning and see birds active in the latter half of the afternoon. Toilets. Reasonable flat to undulating walking track, some steps and uneven sections.

Sunday 1st August
Yarramundi Reserve. Meet 9.30am at Yarramundi Bridge (Nepean River).

Saturday 14th August – Quarterly Meeting

Wednesday 18th August
Rosenthal Lane, Sun Valley. Meet 8.00am at the gate in Rosenthal Lane (141 A7). Park cars on verge along Sun Valley Road. No toilets. A mostly level walk along a fire trail.

Sunday 5th September
Mount Irvine, private property "Bowenlea". Meet 9.00am at Mt Victoria station (pool cars).

Wednesday 15th September
Huntington Reserve and Nepean River. Meet at 8.00am Huntington Reserve, Nepean Road, Emu Plains (162 K14). No toilets. A number of birds are seen in the reserve which acts as a corridor between the river and lower mountains escarpment. 100 metres of rough track, otherwise flat and easy walking.

Wednesday 29th September
Botanical Walk: Kings Tableland, Wentworth Falls. Meet on Tablelands Road behind the pot shop at 9.00am.

Sunday 3rd October
Bus trip to Capertee Valley. Meet 8.00am outside the Westpac Bank, Springwood. Phone Chris to book.

Wednesday 6th October
Blue Gum Swamp – very early bird walk. Meet 5.30am end of White Cross Road, Winmalee (17 F3 or 121 F3). Walk on fireroads. One descent and ascent 50 metres. Bring breakfast and catch some of the dawn chorus. No toilets.

Wednesday 20th October
Mabel Falls Reserve, Woodford. Meet 7.30 am at the end of Mount View Ave, Woodford (23 P-Q15). No toilets.

Sunday 7th November
Valley Heights Reserve. Meet 9.00am at eastern end of Green Parade, Valley Heights.

Saturday 13th November – Quarterly Meeting

Wednesday 17th November
Leura Cascades & Cliff Drive sites, Leura & Katoomba. Meet 7.00am Chelmsford Drive, Leura Cascade carpark (20 E14).
For 9.00am starters meet at Silver Mist picnic area Cliff Drive, Katoomba (30 B3). Toilets. Walks mostly on tracks or park areas.

Sunday 5th December
BOCA Bird Count and Christmas picnic at Wentworth Falls Lake. Meet at the lake at 4.00pm, BYO picnic tea/BBQ.

Wednesday 15th December
Mitchell Park. Meet 7.30am at the park gate, Mitchell Park Road, Cattai (68 P4). There is a $7 per vehicle entrance fee unless you have a National Parks pass. Toilets available.

People on the walks must be over 16, and agree to follow the leader's instructions. Wear sensible clothing, including suitable enclosed footwear. It is advisable to bring a hat, water, binoculars and something to eat. Walks will be cancelled on total fire ban days. Please contact the leader if unsure about the grade of the walk.
